HRNZ: Guidelines Regarding the Care of Horses

MPI have released guidelines regarding the care of horses as an essential activity.

Specifically, the Manager of the MPI Animal Welfare has said today via email “we would be urging all horses to be agitated in order to lower the risk of the spread – we understand this is happening already.  I hope we can take care of this through the registration process, but I wanted to make sure it was clear.”

This development will have an impact on getting racing back up and running when the Level 4 Alert is lifted.  Mauro Barsi, Alexandra Park CEO says “We are committed to the future of Harness Racing, at the end of this lock down period we will be working with trainers to start back up again.  We look forward to the time when we can re-launch Harness Racing at Alexandra Park.”

As a Nationwide directive, these guidelines will apply to all private and public trainers.  Those stabling at Our Franklin Park Training Centre in Pukekohe will be contacted directly. Alexandra Park will continue to work with HRNZ throughout this period and will update you as we know more.
