The Wallis/Hackett team look a force to be reckoned with again this Friday night

The Waiuku training partnership of Michelle Wallis & Bernie Hackett have been on fire in the trotting ranks here at The Park this season and with another big team of six trotters and one pacer lining up this Friday night, don’t be surprised to see them once again coming back at the head of the field. The Alex Park newsdesk caught up with Michelle to assess her team’s chances.

Here’s what Michelle had to say:

Race 1 (10) Highland Star – “ÏThis is a drop in class for him and he will appreciate being back in this grade. He is a sit-sprint type of horse and he gets back to his pet 2200m distance this Friday night. I am expecting a big run but he will have to be on the top of his game to topple his stablemate.”

Race 1 (9) Princess Mackendon – “ÏShe is in the same boat as Highland Star in that she will relish the 2200m distance on Friday night and also notice the drop in class. She has been unlucky her past two starts and whilst I am expecting a big run from both of ours in this, she would be the pick of the two and our best winning chance of the night.”

Race 3 (3) Donna May – “ÏShe galloped in her first run back and Friday night will be another chance for us to gauge where she’s at. If she trotted all the way and got a run to suit, she would rate a place chance at best at this stage of her prep.”

Race 3 (6) Gin – “ÏShe is struggling a wee bit at the moment and this is likely to be her last run before going out for a break. Her most recent run at Cambridge was an improved effort and the reason why we have decided to give her one more start in this prep. She rates as a runner’s chance in a field where there are a couple of nice types.”

Race 6 (7) Full Speed Ahead – “ÏHe is working super at the moment and has come on nicely since his first up performance. That was his first run in nearly a year and a half and he will continue to improve with the racing. He will be driven for luck from his wide draw but if he got it, he would rate as a place chance in what is quite a strong field.”

Race 7 (2) Majestic Ali – “ÏShe is working and racing super and from the front line I expect her to be right in the thick of things come the final 200m of the race.”

Race 9 (2) Chevrons Sweetheart – “ÏShe is a ‘heart in your mouth’ proposition at this stage and we really don’t know what to expect from her at the start. She definitely has the ability to win a race like this but her manners are letting her down horribly at the moment and she would be one for the brave at this stage.”
