Mystery Tipster looking to finish off 2016 in style
Our mystery tipster has been a regular on the AP newdesk over the past month or so and after not been afraid to make a few bold selections and having relative succcess in doing so, we thought we'd let him try send us into 2017 richer than we we were in 2016. With a great night's racing action ahead (and plenty of shorties looking likely on the card), here's who our mystery man thinks we should keep in mind come NYE.
Best Place Value: Race 2 (8) Ideal Belle – It wasn’t that long ago that this classy mare ran second to stablemate Aliante in ‘The Holmes DG’ on this track over the same distance from the standing start conditions. You only have to look who finished behind her in that race in the form of Auckland Cup contenders Hughie Green, No Doctor Needed, The Faitfhful & Arden’s Choice to name a few of the beaten brigade from that night. Her last few starts have been in behind Auckland Cup favourite Dream About Me and the conditions that she gets into this race under been a mare and only having to start off the 10m handicap, with her good standing start manners she looks a great place bet and one that you can get stuck into earlier on in the afternoon to build up the bank for the rest of the night.
Each-Way: Race 1 (2) The Bus – Nothing went right for this smart colt on debut after a very impressive trial on the track on December 10. He held out the first Young Guns heat winner Alta Maestro that day after burning the gate and coming home in 55.8 & 26.8 and with a horse drawn inside him on Saturday who looked like he had a bit to learn from his debut outing, he shouldn’t have any issue crossing down to the marker pegs and from there he has options. His trainer will have him spot on for this and for me he looks another who you can play with some confidence early on in the day to kick of your NYE in style.
Longshot: Race 10 (13) Bopper Jet – There will be a few people out there who will call me crazy for this one but me old mate Bopper Jet looks the longshot value of the day. Drawn the unruly and in a field of talent, his price will be massive but his outsider tag wont do justice to the ability this horse has. He seems to be learning the game more now after been prone to doing things wrong for the early part of his career and with it looking like the speed will be on all the way, don’t be at all surprised to see him flashing home late. At his most recent run on the track behind Motu Meteor, his closing sectionals were quicker than anything else in the race, closing his final 800m in 55.7 & final 400m in 26.8, which was significantly quicker than anything else in the race despite only finishing seventh. If Bopper gets in three, your NY celebrations will be certain to go into the wee hours.
