Island of Origin Driver Series 2011
New Zealands 12 top drivers competing for the pride of their Island of Origin
In 2011 Alexandra Park is set to once again adopt the concept of Australia’s NRL State of Origin with our own ‘Island of Origin Series’. 12 of the nations best harness racing drivers will represent their island of birth and battle it out in teams of 6 on the track.
On Friday the 2nd of September the Auckland Trotting Club is proud to host the second annual Island of Origin Drivers Series. The series will see New Zealand's leading driver's competing on the track to secure top honours for their Island of Origin. The competition has adopted the concept of Australia’s NRL State of Origin with our own racing spin where 12 drivers have formed teams according to their island of birth. The series will be run over four penalty free races. Drivers will adopt their own or stable colours but the overall points will go to each island.
The points will be tallied for each race and the island with the most points come the end of the night will win the title and be presented the Island of Origin Series trophy.
Last year the 'Island of Origin' Title was taken out by the North Island team.
